Preparing for the digital switchover
July 2012
By the end of 2012, channel 69 will no longer be available for radio mics as part of the Ofcom overall digital switchover programme. Wireless mics will be able to operate on channel 38 or on channel 70, however with more potential users of this waveband there is a greater risk of interference.
We were determined to ensure our clients would not be at any such risk and invested in a completely new stock of mics which have been specifically developed to operate on channel 38. Our new mics (both lavalier and handheld) are fully licensed and are able to use the new spectrum already.
Our view was simple: clients rely on us to deliver a seamless service therefore, whenever the switchover finally happens we want to be ready to provide the service our clients expect. By investing before the switchover we are in a prime position to do just that.
So if you are sitting in a conference next year and are startled by some interference over the PA you can be certain of two things. Firstly, that the radio mics are operating on the wrong channel and secondly, Convergence AV is not part of the event team!
